Apple Foundation Models (AFM 3) are a family of five language models developed by Apple in collaboration with Google as of June 2026. They serve as the core architecture for Apple Intelligence, running both on-device and on servers via Apple's Private Cloud Compute. The models were refined using Gemini technologies through distillation but are implemented as independent Apple architectures.
