Hermes Agent is an Open Source agent framework by Nous Research (Lead Engineer: Teknium), released in February 2026. It combines a persistent, self-improving agent with multi-level memory, automatic skill creation, Tool/MCP integrations, and connectivity to numerous messaging channels (including Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal). The software itself is MIT-licensed and free; costs arise primarily from the LLM API used or optionally through the paid "Nous Portal" subscription for hosted model access. Hermes Agent can be self-hosted locally via CLI/desktop app or through a gateway process for messaging channels, with full autonomy through sub-agents, Cron jobs, and Tool execution in isolated backends.
