Volcano Engine (火山引擎, Volcengine) is ByteDance's cloud and AI platform that combines enterprise cloud services (IaaS/PaaS) with an MLOps/LLM platform called Volcano Ark. Through Volcano Ark, ByteDance's Doubao model family as well as third-party models are provided for Fine-Tuning, evaluation, and Inference. The platform positions itself as a leading Model-as-a-Service provider in China through aggressive low-price strategy and achieved a 49.5% market share in China's public cloud MaaS market by June 2026 according to IDC. The offering also includes classical cloud infrastructure (Compute, Storage, Network) as well as specialized video/streaming and recommendation algorithm services from the ByteDance ecosystem.
